BC Government Childcare Grants — Two Types
1. Capital Grants — New Spaces Fund
BC’s New Spaces Fund provides capital grants to licensed operators to create new licensed childcare spaces. Eligible: non-profit and for-profit licensed operators proposing new Group Child Care or Family Child Care spaces. Since 2021, thousands of new licensed spaces across BC have been funded through this program. For families: more licensed spaces in growing communities like North Coquitlam means shorter waitlists over time.
2. Operating Grants — Childcare Operating Fund (COF)
COF provides ongoing grants to licensed operators for staffing, programming, and quality improvement. COF-funded centres can better compensate educators, improving retention and quality. For families: COF-receiving centres tend to have more stable educator teams and better-resourced programming.
Family-Facing “Grants” — CCFRI and ACCB
While technically not “grants” (they’re subsidies/benefits), CCFRI and ACCB function similarly to direct support for families: CCFRI reduces fees automatically at participating centres, and ACCB provides income-tested monthly benefit.
