When BC parents search “childcare benefit BC,” they’re typically looking for one of two programs: the federal Canada Child Benefit (which has a childcare component) or BC’s provincial childcare subsidies (CCFRI and ACCB). This guide covers both, so you don’t miss any support you’re entitled to. For licensed daycare at Smiling Kids Coquitlam: 604-600-4393. Full BC subsidy guide.

BC Childcare Benefits — The Two Levels
Level 1: Federal — Canada Child Benefit (CCB)
The Canada Child Benefit (CCB) is a federal monthly tax-free payment to families with children under 18, administered by the CRA. It is NOT specifically a childcare benefit — it’s a general child support payment. However, many families use CCB funds to help pay daycare fees.
For 2026, CCB for a child under 6 is approximately $619-700/month (income-dependent, indexed annually). Apply for CCB through CRA My Account or when you file your tax return and register your child’s birth. This is separate from BC’s provincial childcare subsidies.
Level 2: BC Provincial — CCFRI and ACCB
These are BC’s actual childcare-specific benefits:
- CCFRI (Child Care Fee Reduction Initiative): Automatic fee reduction at licensed BC centres — approximately $700-950/month for full-time infant/toddler care at participating centres. No application. CCFRI guide.
- ACCB (Affordable Child Care Benefit): Income-tested monthly benefit up to ~$1,250/month for families under $45K. Application required through ChildCareBC.ca. ACCB guide.

Level 3: Federal Tax — Childcare Expense Deduction
Beyond the CCB and BC subsidies, families can claim licensed daycare fees as Childcare Expense Deductions on the federal T1 return (Line 21400). Up to $8,000/year per child under 7 in qualifying childcare expenses. This reduces income tax at your marginal rate. Childcare tax credit BC guide.
How They Stack — Maximum BC Childcare Support
A family in Coquitlam with a $40,000 household income and a 6-month-old in full-time licensed daycare could be eligible for:
- CCB: approximately $7,200/year
- CCFRI: approximately $10,200/year (automatic at participating centre)
- ACCB: approximately $13,000-14,000/year (income-tested)
- Federal childcare expense deduction: reduces income tax on out-of-pocket childcare payments
These programs are all additive — there is no “choosing one.” Apply for everything you qualify for.
