How ACCB Payments Work
Unlike some benefits that arrive as a direct payment to you, ACCB payments go directly to your licensed daycare centre — not to your bank account. Here’s the flow:
- You apply for ACCB within 30 days of your child starting licensed care
- The Ministry of Education and Child Care (MECC) processes your application (4–6 weeks)
- Once approved, MECC pays your childcare provider directly each month
- Your provider invoices you for only the reduced amount (gross fee minus ACCB benefit)
- CCFRI is also applied at the provider level — your invoice shows both reductions

The 30-Day Rule — The Most Important Deadline in ACCB
BC’s ACCB program backdates benefits to your child’s first day of care only if you apply within 30 calendar days of that start date. A family who misses this window loses weeks or months of retroactive benefit — potentially thousands of dollars.
Example: If your baby starts care on October 1 and you apply on October 25 (24 days in), you receive full backdating to October 1. If you apply November 5 (35 days in), you only receive benefits from November 5 forward — losing approximately $500–$1,250 in backdated benefit depending on your income.
