The educator immediately engages the toddler in a preferred activity. Crying is expected and okay. The educator stays close and co-regulates. Parent returns within 30 minutes.
• Day 3 (2–3 hours, includes snack): Snack time is a key settling milestone — an 18-month-old who accepts food from their educator is showing trust. It often marks a turning point in the settling process.
• Day 4 (half day, includes rest period): Rest period is when many toddlers solidify their settling — falling asleep in the presence of their educator is a significant act of trust.
